Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris previously starred together in Gone Baby
Synopsis
A female Afghanistan veteran with a mysterious connection to her dead best friend from the army confronts her Vietnam vet grandfather at the family’s ancient lake house. Gone (2007)..
What ties the film together is its universal appeal to the human challenges – internal and external – that many (including me) have to deal with
This film touches my heart on many levels, and while the subject matter deals with many of the dark and sad realities of life, it’s done in a way that helps me see the person first and their circumstances second. Each character is portrayed brilliantly, with the actor reflecting a little on themselves in their portrayal – their hearts are where they need to be to make their good and bad choices seem reasonable and relatable.
It’s brilliant how the script captures the trappings of crippling guilt and obsessive thinking
The suspense was extreme, not over the top, and quite effective, carefully timed to wait for "that moment" of revelation. In particular, Zoe torments Mer by pulling her strings like a puppet, preventing Mer from freely dealing with her emotional wounds.
Jiminy Cricket’s sidekick
The way the film evokes Pinocchio and his “conscientious” people is an apt comparison. And finally, as a final thought, Ed Harris convinced me to rethink my recycling habits.
Man, was he as good as ever, and as for Morgan Freeman, he couldn’t do wrong if his life depended on it
Bravo everyone!
