Almut: Why rush?
Synopsis
An up-and-coming chef and a recently divorced woman find their lives forever changed when a chance encounter reunites them in a deeply moving love story that spans a decade. When Florence Pugh couldn’t make it to the film’s premiere due to other film commitments, Andrew Garfield brought a life-size cutout of her to fill her absence. During the living room scene With the candles and the fire, Almut closes Tobias’ notebook but in the next shot it is open. Tobias: Because I fear that there is a very real and distinct possibility that I am about to fall in love with you.

It’s a shame Written by Al Hazan Performed by Allie Hazan. I just finished watching We Live in Time (2024) and I have to tell you that it is truly one of the most emotional and realistic romantic films I have seen in a long time. Pros of We Live in Time (2024): The lead performances of Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh are phenomenal in this film. This isn’t really surprising considering these two have been nominated for Oscars in the past and I hope they both get nominations this year.
I appreciated that this film managed to realistically tell the love story of two strangers who fall in love after meeting for the first time
Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of romantic films where the two lovers meet in the most cynical and ridiculous way possible, but at the same time I love it when a film approaches these stories in a more realistic way. The things that these two characters go through in this film all manage to be touching, devastating, and even healing depending on the scenes those moments take place in. I also appreciated that this film manages to maintain balance during these moments where they don’t feel overly dramatic or overly emotional to the point of cringe inducing. And finally, I love how the ending of the film manages to avoid all the traditional tropes of other romantic films while still giving the audience the satisfaction they want to see in this film.
This is a film that I can only see myself watching once and that’s it
Mixed for We Live in Time (2024): While I definitely appreciated the path this film took with its story, some people will probably have a hard time watching it. To be fair, the film achieved its main goals with this approach, but it might also hit some people hard who have been through similar situations in their lives. Negatives of We Live in Time (2024): I only have one thing to say about this film in this area and it is a very small one. But if this element is the only negative element of your film, that tells you how good your film is.
Overall, We Live in Time (2024) definitely gave me what I wanted and I couldn’t be happier
If Garfield and Pugh don’t receive nominations for their performances in this film, I will be very disappointed in the Academy. In any case, if you are looking for a romantic movie that feels truly realistic in its approach to the story, then this is the movie for you.
