Synopsis
A father and son working as security guards for an armored truck company encounter a team of would-be robbers while on a bridge. They get trapped and must come up with a plan to escape and ensure their survival. The only other time Sly played an antagonist was in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003. Armored cash transports rely heavily on GPS tracking systems to enhance their security.
Don’t get me wrong
If something goes wrong – be it an accident, an attack, or an unexpected stop – the GPS data helps first responders understand the situation and get to the vehicle quickly. Okay… I know some people might say this is a little tasteless, because Bruce Willis may have known he was sick and decided to make as many movies (and dollars) as he could before it was too late, but he often gave low-effort performances in low-budget DTV movies in the last 7-8 years of his career and that’s what Stallone has in this reminds me of. I love Tulsa King and I think Stallone can still be really good on screen even as he approaches 80.
But this movie
Sure, at some point in his life, action roles may dry up, but he still has a presence. He still looks cool and tough. it feels like they knew putting his name on it would sell it because otherwise NOBODY would have seen it. The movie isn’t horrible…
But while these characters are somewhat likable, you wonder how they managed to stretch this into a 90 minute movie
It’s not an action movie, more of a “thriller” (and I use that loosely) and there are some interesting bits between the father and son dynamic. This could have been a 40 minute short (or an episode of a TV show) and it would have made sense. But the plot is too thin to last 90 minutes and there are obvious flaws that you’ll notice in the bad guys who can’t get in. Minimal use of CGI, but you can easily spot it when it happens, which shows that the budget was VERY low.
Whether you’re a fan of his or not, you can skip it
If Stallone’s name wasn’t on it, this movie would hardly be rented or bought by many people.
