If I had a nickel for every time a movie based on Don Quixote came out in the 2020s
Synopsis
11-year-old Alfonso, heir to Don Quixote, and his 3 imaginary, musical rabbits join Pancho and Victoria to save their beloved town of La Mancha from a massive storm. References ET (1982).
I’d have two nickels
Which isn’t much, but it would be weird if it happened twice. Overall, this film is not easy on the eyes, it has a CGI style with unflattering character designs; the fact that the 2D concept art in the credits is so animated only makes it a bigger sin.
If it has one redeeming quality, it’s the depiction of the Spanish mountains, which look beautiful
Some odd creative decisions include Panza’s status as a scientist, one of the henchmen with a strangely swollen neck, three imaginary rabbits that have no bearing on the plot, and a jarring scoreboard that makes movements look weird and unnatural. The villain is a generic cliché and the story doesn’t seem to do justice to how ruthless he is given the scene I won’t spoil.
All in all, a disorganized mess
This movie has an environmental message, even though it’s also anti-gentrification, so I mean, congrats.
