Ghana Develops a National Policy for the Management of the Marine Fisheries Sector
Ghana has developed a fisheries management plan that sets out a formal harvest strategy and provides directions for the formulation of sustainable management strategies for the marine fisheries of the country. The Plan seeks to halt the decline of marine fish stocks of the country through action including:
- the reduction of excessive fishing pressure on fish stocks
- the protection of the nation’s marine habitats, biodiversity and fish resources through legislation
- the strengthening of participatory decision making in fisheries management
Ultimately, the aim of the Plan is to rebuild the declining fish stocks of the country to meet regional and international fisheries management obligations.
