Synopsis
The grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his qualifications and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives—including his own. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and was prepared to audition for people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least take it to Ford first, because they thought he would immediately reject it, but at least others would hear that Harrison Ford was involved in the project, which also piqued the interest of other major actors.
And the rest of the show is great
Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he cheered up nonetheless. It was featured on WatchMojo’s Top 10 TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). Jason Segel is perfectly cast in this script.
And Jessica is perfect
He has that weird, idiotic confident energy that the role requires. His humor is just right for the dialogue. This is a new way of doing situation dramas. There are no real punch lines, just endearing personalities with a touch of weirdness, and family circumstances that are just a little bit beyond the normal, but still relatable.
It’s just impossible
Of course, Jimmy’s therapist behavior is completely absurd. He would lose his license immediately. But we allow metaphorical situations in the drama. And in this script, we sense a strong sense of purpose in the decisions.
Other reviewers have clearly struggled
We need to give the writers the benefit of the doubt and try to get the point across. To me, it’s simple and fun.
