Synopsis
A grieving psychotherapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
By ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making big changes in people’s lives, including his own. The cast of “Downsizing” shares their best moments that defined their characters in Season 1 and reveals who has the best Harrison Ford impression. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they convinced Harrison Ford to come on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he would listen to people like Ford when auditioning.
Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
Segel told Goldstein that they should at least suggest him to Ford first, thinking that he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was brought on board, which sparked interest from other big-name actors. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was ecstatic nonetheless. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023).
This is pure and simple entertainment
Concisely written, great jokes, just enough pathos to keep it from becoming a middle-class Big Bang Theory, a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like that, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticizing it from that perspective is just negativity for the sake of lowering the ratings. Are any of the characters stereotypes?
A real revelation, the show is worth watching for that alone
Yes, but don’t get offended and you shouldn’t be offended, just so you know, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype depicted here. The real success here is mixing the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages, and lifestyles and making it damn funny. Finally, who would have thought that Harrison Ford is such a good actor in light comedies?
