Synopsis
A look at the nightlife of four vampires who have lived together on Staten Island for over a century. At the SXSW Film Festival, Jemaine Clement and the cast of What We Do in the Shadows reveal who they are inviting to guest star on the show.

This was done so that traditional fang prosthetics would not interfere with their ability to speak or pronounce their words. You’re Dead Written by Norma Tanega and Norma Phyllis Kutzer Performed by Norma Tanega [theme song; plays over the series’ opening credits] What We Do in the Shadows is about a small group of vampires who live together on Staten Island and the adventures they get into.
If you love the film, you’ll love the series!
The film, which follows another group in Wellington, New Zealand, is excellent and I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet. What makes the series better than the film comes down to the episodic nature of television.
The series wouldn’t work if Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who wrote/directed/starred in the film, weren’t on board
The episodic format means that storylines can start and end faster than the film, characters can be fleshed out more, and they can be thrown into a wider range of crazy situations. The film had great world-building, but it could only do so much in its 85-minute runtime, and the series simply expands on that with more time.
Thankfully, Season 2 is on the way!
They made sure that the tone, setting, cinematography, and humor were on par with the film. Hulu’s streaming lineup has a ton of reasons to love it this month — get ready for new series and favorite movies to watch at home.
